For many years, Good News Clinics has received inquiries from other
communities who wanted to open their own charitable health clinic and
desired information on how to start, what to do, and how to best serve
the people in their community who need medical care. As a result, in
2010, Good News Clinics was awarded an educational grant to compile and
compose a manual to aid other communities and clinics in their
efforts.
The purpose of this manual is to share the story of Good News Clinics
(GNC), the largest free healthcare clinic in Georgia, in the hope that
we can assist other communities as they develop a charitable health
clinic. We recognize that the needs in each community are very
different, so we intend for the information shared to be used to help
others brainstorm how their community can best serve the uninsured,
underinsured and indigent. Suggestions included in this guide may not be
applicable to all clinics or all communities as each health clinic will
have its own distinct cultural, social and environmental factors which
will affect its establishment and success.
Topics included in this manual include Establishing a 501(c)3, Board
Development, Finances, Public Relations, Staffing and Volunteers, and
the materials include sample documents and forms (including electronic
copies on a DVD). All the forms and information enclosed can be adapted
to fit each community/clinic's needs.
